About Nice: the back story

Nice is the Riviera’s largest city and its natural base: the airport is a tram ride away and the coastal trains leave from Nice-Ville. Its centre runs from the Promenade des Anglais to the ochre lanes of Vieux Nice and Port Lympia, with Cimiez and its museums on the hill above.

The Promenade

The Promenade des Anglais follows the Baie des Anges past Le Negresco; the town shaped by its winter visitors has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2021.

Vieux Nice

Mornings belong to the Cours Saleya and its flower market; lunch on socca at Chez Pipo, or at La Merenda for Niçoise cooking.

Stay near the tram line and you won’t need a car.

Cimiez

On the hill, the Musée Matisse and the monastery garden; below it, the Musée national Marc Chagall.

Our advice: climb the Colline du Château at the end of the day, then walk down to the port for dinner.
