Menton is the last French town before Italy, its old town rising in coloured layers above the harbour. It is a town of gardens, from Val Rahmeh to the Serre de la Madone, with Cocteau’s Bastion on the seafront and Mirazur on the border.
The town
The basilica above the harbour, the Bastion and Musée Jean Cocteau, and the casino on the seafront.

Gardens
Val Rahmeh for subtropical plants, and the Serre de la Madone for terraces and pools.
Menton is on the coastal railway from Nice: an easy day.
Our advice: book Mirazur well ahead, or come for L’Orangerie’s Bib Gourmand lunch.
