About The Alps from the Riviera: the back story

Behind Nice, the valleys of the Alpes-Maritimes climb to ski resorts and to the Mercantour National Park. Auron, at 1,600 metres, is about 1h30 or 90 km from Nice (Auron).

Winter

Isola 2000, Auron and Valberg are the main resorts; coach 83 runs from Nice airport to Valberg in winter (nice.aeroport.fr).

Summer

The Mercantour National Park has high lakes and trails; the Gorges du Verdon are a long day to the west.

Check road conditions and carry snow chains in winter.

Getting there

By car or coach from Nice.

Our advice: ski in the morning, and you can still see the sea by evening.
