The Riviera is one of the world’s great yachting coasts, with superyachts in Port Vauban and Port Pierre Canto and day boats in every harbour. Charters range from a boat with a skipper for the day to a fully crewed yacht for a week.
Skippered or crewed
With a skippered boat, a professional skipper sails for you; with a crewed yacht, a full crew (captain, chef, stewards) looks after you on board. Brokers such as Burgess and Fraser arrange crewed charters.
What to ask
Ask what is included (fuel, food, port fees), where you can sail and anchor, and what happens if the weather turns. Protected areas such as Port-Cros and the Calanques have their own rules.
Charter only through established brokers or licensed operators, and agree everything in writing.
Our advice: for a first time, take a day with a skipper to the Îles de Lérins or along Cap d’Antibes before committing to a week.
